Video: Campaign upload troubleshooting guide
TRANSCRIPTION: In this video, we take you through the common issues that can affect your campaign when uploading into Google Ads Editor. The most common cause of errors is the destination set as Use Selected Destinations when uploading keywords or ads through the Make Multiple Changes function. All SpeedPPC export files contain campaign and ad group data, so ensure that you select MyData includes Columns for campaigns and ad groups. Even when set, this can revert between uploads, so it's good to always confirm Destination is set to MyData includes Columns for campaigns and ad groups. In this case, if we proceeded without fixing, it would add our Gut Health ads into the Garden Center campaign shown, rather than creating a brand new campaign. It would also add each ad, in this case 120 ads, into every single ad group of that campaign. This may be a large amount added or skipped, as in this example. Since we only had 120 ads, we can spot here that the import can't be correct. We can click Revert and Cancel, then repeat the process with the corrected setting. Another type of error can be detected when there are missing fields or field errors and warnings. Here the upload looks fine initially, with ads uploaded into the Expanded Text Ads section. However, the field mapping is incorrect and the final URL is missing. In this case, call-only ads were created through SpeedPPC, but uploaded through the Incorrect Expanded Text Ads section. The ads just need to be uploaded through the Call Ads section. Similar errors can happen when uploading any import file through the wrong section. We can hit Reject, so these changes are not processed, then upload the same export through the correct Call Ads section. The next error is not a problem that occurs due to incorrect upload. However, your upload into Google Ads Editor will catch it if not fixed earlier in SpeedPPC. There are multiple errors in this ad upload, with headline ones exceeding the character limit. This shouldn't normally happen at this stage. We need to refer back to the ad template in SpeedPPC. It usually means fallback text hasn't been used, or it's too long and still exceeds character limits. Once fallback text is added within the character limits, the updated build can then be re-imported, and this issue will be fixed. Smaller alerts that are normal and always occur are the campaign budget and ad group bids, which need to be added manually before posting. This is because these fields are not in the Google keyword and ad imports, and so are not included in the SpeedPPC build. Adding budget resolves the first alert. Next, we need to enter ad group default max bids. Keyword level bids have been entered in SpeedPPC, and these will take priority, as they're more specific. However, the ad group default bid is still mandatory in Google Ads, even if we manage bidding through keyword level bids and the default bid is rarely needed. This covers the main errors we encounter. Occasionally, there can be issues caused by new versions of Ads Editor. The version can be checked on the bottom right.
